ABCs of Life 4- Patience
Patience, to me it is the peace and happiness we get in living in the now.
How to be patient is almost about how to live life.
Something from my favourite monk, Ajahn Brahm:
1. When is the most important time: Now, because opportunities pass away too quickly
2. Who is the most important person: The story the one you are with, this are your experience, your pet, your life, your illness..etc. We have to learn to embrace it
3. The most important thing to do: To care, for others and for yourself.
You get far more done when you are focused on something, and that is the core of patience
I have always been quite impatient and short-tempered. For me, I want to get things done as soon as possible and quickly get away with it.
Once, a friend asked me what is the greatest thing I have learned from coming to Japan. And my answer was 'Patience'
Living in a foreign land, unable to converse in the native language, stark differences in so many ways. I learned and shut myself up whenever necessary, and be patient. It is never easy to shut up the always active and rebellious mind. Till today, I am still learning to be patient. I learned that being patient is the best thing I can do in life, and all my patience paid off.
For me, it is a daily reminder, that now and to care, and that me and my experiences are my priorities.
It is not easy, especially when some things hit and pierce through our heart.
I know it is achievable, peace and patience, come in and through me, everyday, every moment.
